Visit http://www.skill.org.uk/vol/org_questionnaire.asp to complete our quick online questionnaire. We would also like to hear from active disabled volunteers living in London. Regardless of your disability or background we want draw on your personal experiences. Visit http://www.skill.org.uk/vol/vol_questionnaire.asp to complete our quick online questionnaire.
About Skill
Skill promotes opportunities to empower young people and adults with any kind of disability to realise their potential in further, continuing and higher education, training and employment throughout the United Kingdom. The charity works by providing information and advice to individuals, promoting good practice and influencing policy in partnership with disabled people, service providers and policy makers. Following a successful pilot scheme involving disabled volunteers in our London and Edinburgh offices we have recently secured funding from the City Parochial Foundation to research and promote disabled access to volunteering in London. Some organisations have positive experiences of working with disabled volunteers. However a great majority are reluctant to take on this group due concerns about providing support and indeed assumptions about their abilities. As part of the 18-month research project one of our primary aims is to consult with a range of London based organisations currently working with disabled volunteers or that have done so in the past.
Skill has produced 2 booklets on the subject of volunteering ‘Disability Equality in Volunteering’ - aimed at organisations and ‘Into Volunteering’ - for potential volunteers. The information gathered from this project will form the basis of a 'How to' resource pack - also aimed at organisations.
